Submission Page

Submissions are now open for the first edition of Cicada Shell! We are looking for submissions in four different categories(Poetry, Short-form Fiction, Short-form creative nonfiction, and Visual Art). Experimental pieces that blur the lines between categories are also welcome.  All submissions should be sent via email to CicadaShellPress@gmail.com, with the subject line "(Category name)  Submission- (name of piece)" an example of this would be "Poetry Submission - Cicada."  For written work please send  as either a  pdf,  or doc file.  Visual art is preferred as a png, though other file types are accepted. There is no submission fee. All submissions will get a response letter back, though response times will vary. If your work gets featured you will receive a free copy of the issue.

What type of pieces are we looking for? :

The goal of Cicada Shell press is to highlight Trans voices in literature and art especially through the pieces that struggle to find a place among more traditional journals. Works that are experimental in form, content, and style are not only welcome but encouraged. We are looking for the works which showcase your unique voice and perspective. Both genre and non-genre work is welcome. 

How Many Pieces can I submit? :

Writers may submit up to 5 pieces in each category. For pieces that fall into multiple categories, they will count towards the limit of the primary category(which you pick upon submission of the work).

When does the submission window end? :

For the first edition the submission window will end January 1st 2027.
